Ubuntu 9.04 one month on

Well, nearly one month.

As I said in a previous post, my laptop was crashing multiple times per day before I re-installed to Jaunty. Here's the situation since then:

  • one period of 9 days uptime, another of five days
  • most reboots were caused by a hardware fault in a docking station, which affects Windows users equally (static causing a laptop to power down on docking)
  • when my laptop starts up, it will hang once, some seconds after starting Gnome. Restart gdm, and everything is fine from then on.
  • Other than that bug, I have had just one crash, which was something to do with a low battery situation.

Whilst this is not perfect, having going from five reboots a day to this, I am very happy. This is at least sufficiently similar to my recollection of using Windows way back when.
